You are being offered an interview because your application has stood out and admissions sees you as someone they would like to admit. 

The interview is a way for them to get to know you beyond your application, getting a more personal feeling about the kind of person you are and learning more about your ideas and goals. The interview is also used to evaluate how you might fit with their school, major or program.
